Marathi – the history, origin and the literature.
Since centuries, Marathi has been a prominent spoken in Maharashtra, India. A beautiful dialect that curves bends and blends with every word and its meaning. Marathi is one of the 22 languages selected as an official language by the government of India. Marathi is derived from Prakrit dialect which literally means the ‘language of the empire’. During 15th or 16th century Maharashtri evolved into Marathi.

Marathi literature dates back to 1000 odd years. There are two significant events in the history of the emergence of Marathi literature.
1) Upcoming of Jadhava Dynasty
2) The rise of Mahanubhav and Warkari Panth
While Jhadhavas adopted Marathi as their court language and literature, Warkari and Mahanubhav adopted Marathi to spread the religious awareness. Many great poets and writers of the Marathi literature belong to this sect. Marathi literature found its first formal visibility in 10th century AD.
